When Michael Piller and Rick Berman created DEEP SPACE NINE they thought the focus would be on the station, but they gave the crew a series of runabouts so they could explore the Gamma Quadrant. The ships were designed by Jim Martin and Rick Sternbach, and were inspired by the Eagles from SPACE 1999. Originally, the runabouts would have had interchangeable pods in the middle. The Eaglemoss model is 8.25" (21 cm) long.
